Britco to Build Accommodations for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games
Britco Structures has been awarded a contract by the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) to design and build accommodations for the Whistler Athletes' Centre, a significant component of the Whistler Olympic and Paralympic Village and home to athletes competing in events at Whistler Olympic Park, The Whistler Sliding Centre and Whistler Creekside. It will also be a legacy training facility for Canadian athletes long after the 2010 Winter Games.
Under the terms of the contract, Britco is designing and building two permanent facilities a 100-room Lodge and a 20-unit Townhouse Complex, as well as temporary rooms to accommodate up to 592 team officials staying in the Whistler Athletes' Village.
The projects will provide upwards of 200,000 labour hours of work for Britco's employees at our two BC plants in Agassiz and Penticton along with Britco's workers in the Whistler Olympic and Paralympic Village.
Britco Partners with VANOC and BC Housing to Provide Affordable Housing
As part of an innovative Olympic Legacy Affordable Housing project, Britco is designing and manufacturing temporary accommodations to be used by athletes and officials then reconfigured into social housing units after the 2010 Games.
After the Games, the units will be relocated and converted to 156 permanent affordable housing units in five communities across the Province: Chilliwack, Enderby, Saanich, Sechelt and Surrey. Additional units will be built and shipped directly to Chetwynd for seniors’ housing.
Britco Becomes Official Supplier of the 2010 Winter Games and
the Canadian Olympic Team
In addition to the Whistler Athletes' Centre contract, Britco has also joined the VANOC sponsor family as an Official Supplier of modular structures products and services for the 2010 Winter Games. This agreement provides Britco with the sponsorship rights for the Canadian Olympic teams participating at the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing, the 2010 Winter Games and London 2012.
Britco's modular manufacturing approach to building construction incorporates sustainable and environmentally-friendly construction techniques and we are proud that this will help VANOC build a sustainable legacy well beyond 2010.
